BOISE -- A former postal worker was ordered to serve two years of probation and pay $3,255 in fines and restitution after admitting he stole medication packages targeted for veterans. The sentence was handed down Monday in federal court in Boise, according to U.S. Attorney Wendy Olsen.

Guy K. Dunne, 45, of Meridian, worked as a carrier for the U.S. Postal Service from Dec. 1997 to April 2011.  Between Jan. 21 and Feb. 12, 2010, the Caldwell Post Office determined that several U.S. Veterans Administration medication packages were missing.  In April 2010, Dunne was observed on video surveillance removing a VA medication package from a delivery cart and placing it under mail he was already carrying.

Dunne later admitted to the theft.  According to the plea agreement, Dunne stole the medications to sustain his addiction to hydrocodone.  Dunne admitted he had stolen an estimated 20 to 40 packages.  The Postal Service identified missing packages intended for 29 recipients; Dunne has agreed to pay restitution for those packages.
