BOISE -- A grass fire sent a dark plume of smoke above east Boise Tuesday afternoon.

Firefighters spent much of the afternoon dousing hot spots, after an acre went up in flames on South Federal Way, between East Amity Road and Yamhill Road.

When fire crews arrived, they found the hillside on fire, with the railroad tracks burning.

Firefighters were able to quickly knock down the grass fire, but a stack of wood pallets covered with plastic bags and wood chips gave firefighters a challenge.

No one was hurt and no buildings were damaged in the fire.

A portion of South Federal Way was blocked for nearly two hours.
