BOISE -- The much-anticipated 8th and Main Tower reached its final structural height Wednesday just after 11 a.m.
The centerpiece of Boise's growing skyline is now about 270 feet tall. The height will increase to 323 feet once its decorative spire is complete.
The 391,930 square-foot tower is under construction to serve as the regional headquarters of Salt Lake City-based Zions Bank and is owned by Utah's Gardner Company.
The final beam of the tower's top deck was lowered into place during a ceremony that included representatives of both Zions Bank and Gardner Company along with Boise Mayor Dave Bieter.

The tower is expected to be completed in January of 2014.

The 18-story 8th and Main Tower has been in construction since April of 2012. The nearly $76 million project will house the Idaho headquarters of Zions Bank, along with other businesses, including a law office, gym, four restaurants, a design group, an architectural firm, and other professional services.
NEW TENANTS ANNOUNCED
On Wednesday, Gardner Company announced the final three tenants that have signed leases to occupy the building.
Those businesses are:
Parson Behle & Latimer, a Utah-based law firm with offices in Boise, Las Vegas, Reno, Salt Lake City, Spokane, and Washington D.C.
On the Fly Deli, a restaurant owned by Dustan and Keela Bristol who also own the Brick 29 Bistro in Nampa.
Desert Rose Capital Management, a Boise-based investment management and financial advising business.

ESI Construction, Zions Bank, and Gardner company lowered the final steel beam into place during Wednesday's ceremonial "topping off."
Topping off, or 'topping out' is a tradition among iron workers to celebrate the placement of the final beam at the top of a building. During the ceremony, an evergreen tree is typically placed at one end of the beam and a U.S. flag at the other.
The final beam for the Eighth and Main building was 'topped' by a tree at one end and a flag at the other. The beam was signed by guests who arrived for Thursday's ceremony.
Interestingly, once the tower is completed, the same signed beam will be visible from the top floor mechanical penthouse.

THE BOISE HOLE
On January 24, 1987, fire destroyed the Eastman Building which had stood for 82 years at the northwest corner of 8th and Main streets. See that story here.
What's more, a failed construction project in 2001 left a huge pit covered in steel rebar on the site. That's because a previous developer's plans to construct a 22-story tower fell through during construction.
Since then, no other permanent building has stood where the Zion's Bank headquarters is now nearing completion.
