BOISE -- Early voting opened Tuesday in Ada County.
Jometa Spencer is the elections supervisor. "This allows people who are not able to go to the polling place on election day to come in and vote," she said.
Spencer has been working for Ada County Elections for more than 35 years. She's seen a lot of hotly-contested elections. This isn't necessarily one of those.
"We've had just over 25 people so far," said Spencer.
But, that was just in the first morning on the first day. Also, Spencer says that's actually a good turnout for a consolidated election, probably because most people do have something to vote on. "All six cities are on the ballot."
The biggest elections this year are the fire safety and open space bond elections in Boise. The city of Trees also has three city council elections.
Those in Meridian will be voting on possibly dissolving the Meridian Heights Water and Sewer District, and in four council elections.
Eagle has elections for one city council seat and two fire commission seats.
People in Kuna will see two city council elections and one fire commission election on their ballot.
Those in Star will be voting on two council seats and one fire commission seat.
Garden City has a mayoral election, but Mayor John Evans is running unopposed. They're also voting on two council seats.
Elections office workers are ready for and hoping that plenty of people exercise their constitutional right to vote.
"It's usually a little lighter the first few days," said Spencer. "It will pick up as people become aware that we are open, and hopefully have a much larger turnout by the end of the time frame."
Early voting also opened in Canyon County. Again, every city in the county has elections on the ballot, along with Middleton, Kuna, and Star fire districts, and the Greater Middleton Recreation District.
Before you head to the polls, remember to bring your photo I.D..
You can also vote by mail, just send a request to the elections officer, and they'll mail you your ballot.
Early voting happens in Ada County at the Elections Office on Benjamin Lane in Boise. The hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. They will also offer early voting from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, October 26. You can also request an absentee ballot before October 30.
