EAGLE -- Eagle Police now have their first K-9 police dog, and the dog now has a famous name.

Al is a 14-month-old female labrador.

She's named after well known Treasure Valley attorney Allen Derr.

Derr, who passed away in June, was best known for his work in the landmark 1971 U.S. Supreme Court case, "Reed versus Reed."

The Boise Exchange Club helped purchase Al and got to name her.

Al and her new handler will soon begin training.

Eagle Police say they're thrilled to have their first K-9 officer.
