BOISE -- A man received a citation after hitting a cyclist on Highway 55 over the weekend, knocking him to the ground where he was then hit by another truck.

Ada County Sheriff's Deputies gave Bradley Kempton, 34 of Boise an imprudent driving citation for failing to drive in a manner necessary to avoid dangers along the roadway.

Deputies say Kempton hit the 56-year-old cyclist with his passenger side mirror of his Mitsubishi Montero as he was driving along Highway 55 Saturday morning.  The cyclist was knocked to the ground, where he was hit by a truck driving behind the Montero.

The cyclist was taken to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center with severe leg injuries and unknown internal injuries.

Neither the driver of the pick-up truck nor the cyclist will be cited.

Ada County Sheriff's Deputies believe visibility was likely a factor in the crash.  They believe the bright sun made it difficult for the drivers to see the cyclist.

In cases like that, deputies encourage drivers to slow down and take their time to avoid incidents like these on the road.
