MERIDIAN --  The Ada County Sheriff's Office is investigating an accident between a vehicle and a bicyclist that left one man dead.

The accident happened around just after 12:00 a.m. Saturday on Chinden and Star in Meridian.

Deputies say an 18-year-old girl was behind the wheel of an SUV when she struck the male cyclist.

"Preliminary information shows that there wasn't much evidence to show that they had any lighting or reflective equipment," Sgt. Patrick Calley of the Ada County Sheriff's Office said of the victim. "The clothing was dark clothing, not reflective equipment.  Certainly a bicyclist has a right to the roadway, but one thing we in the law enforcement community would like to remind people is that you've got to take every advantage you can to make yourself safe.  Don't assume the cars are going to see you."

Police said it appears as though the man, who is not being identified, was riding in the road when he was hit.

Chinden Boulevard was closed for about four hours near the crash site while the Sheriff's Office investigated.

We're told that it does not appear that alcohol was a factor.

The Sheriff's Office said there are no plans at this point, to file charges.
