MERIDIAN -- Starting Sunday delays could slow down commuters. The Ada County Highway District is building a roundabout at the intersection of Eagle and Amity roads. One man we talked with said there is no need to do work on that intersection. However, most folks thought it would help traffic in the area.

"In the spring there was a couple of times when, I don't know if it was the time of the day or whatever, but the traffic would get backed up almost to Victory (Road)," said Kevin Nordell, who lives in a subdivision near the intersection.

Nordell says he's seen a traffic backup from that intersection as long as a mile. Beginning Sunday morning the area will be completely closed until mid-September.

Jacqueline Bouck uses the intersection getting to work.

"I use it at least five times a week. I go through there twice a day. It's my main commute to and from Nampa," said Bouck.

She's seen the signs about the construction.

"It's been posted out there in that intersection for a while now. And it wasn't just 'til a couple weeks ago or so they actually posted when the closures were going to be," Bouck said.

Bouck said the timing is the biggest inconvenience.

"I thought it was pretty inconvenient right when school is getting ready to start, but it would help out a lot with how much traffic does go through there," she said.

It's going to be a one-lane roundabout, but could expand it to two lanes in the future. ACHD tells us 1,100 cars use the intersection at the busiest time of day. They said the roundabout will be safer and more efficient for traffic.

Nordell said he thinks it should help as long as people know how the roundabout works.

"I've actually seen some people go the wrong way, like take a left hand turn through the roundabout which doesn't make me very happy. But I think in general they work pretty well, keep the flow of traffic moving," he said.

ACHD said the project costs $700,000 and should take four months to finish.

Drivers on Eagle Road will be detoured to Cloverdale or Locust Grove roads. Drivers on Amity Road will be detoured to Victory or Lake Hazel roads.
