BOISE -- Dozens of city officials and students came to Capitol Park to celebrate Arbor Day Friday.

A special tree was presented and dedicated to former state controller Donna Jones, who resigned after getting into a car accident last year. However, forestry was a topic near to hear heart.

The Department of Land also presented seven cities in the Treasure Valley with the honor of being called official "Tree Cities."

To quality, states have to dedicate a certain amount of money forestry in their area.

"For the state of Idaho, about 33 percent of the cities in the state participate in this program. So we think that's a great honor," said Department of Lands Director Tom Schultz.

In honor of Arbor Day, free tree seedlings are available Friday only at Idaho's Home Depot stores, FedEx Office locations, and the Boise Co-Op.
