KUNA -- The Idaho Humane Society is offering a reward for information about a potential animal cruelty case out of Kuna.

Dexter the cat was brought to the Idaho Humane Society's Veterinary Medical Center with serious injuries to its head and face on Wednesday.

Veterinarians say Dexter was shot in the head with a small caliber bullet on Wednesday morning.

According to the humane society, there was a "trail of bullet fragments and shattered bone fragments" that showed the bullet entered the back of Dexter's head, and exited his forehead near his nose.

Hannah Parpart with the humane society tells KTVB that Dexter is expected to survive but may lose one of his eyes.

"He had surgery to kind of clean up those wounds and close those up," said Parpart. "His prognosis is still pretty guarded. We're worried about swelling, infection through that area that might affect his brain and his eye as well.

Dexter's owner says the cat was outside a home in the Hayfield subdivision near Ten Mile and 4th Street when the shooting happened.

The Idaho Humane Society is offering a $5,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest in the shooting case.
