CALDWELL, Idaho -- There is an abundance of animals at the Canyon County Animal Shelter, just looking for someone to take them home.
Saturday, the shelter hoped to send more animals on their way to be pets with a special: 50 percent off adoption fees. The special included dogs and cats 6 months and older. As an extra perk to the deal, and since this week is National Ice Cream Week, Dairy Queen in Nampa donated a free ice cream coupon for every adopter.
Adoptions officials said there are a lot of dogs and cats and many kittens that need to go to a good home.
The shelter staff said it's a good offer.
"We are really full, especially from the Fourth of July," said Nancy Orr, adoptions manager for the Canyon County Animal Shelter. "We are really full with dogs and cats and kittens, so just trying to help people afford to get their dog or cat is really helpful."
All the pets come spayed or neutered and micro-chipped. The special is offered until 6 p.m. Saturday.
The shelter is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.at 5801 Graye Lane, Caldwell.
