BOISE -- A 26-year-old Caldwell man who pleaded guilty to shaking and hitting a 5-month-old boy, causing serious injuries, has been sentenced to up to eight years in prison.
Daryson Balisalisa was sentenced Monday by 3rd District Judge Bradley Ford after earlier pleading guilty to felony injury to a child. He can seek parole after serving 18 months of the sentence.
Prosecutors allege Balisalisa shook and hit the boy because he was crying. The boy suffered severe bleeding on the brain and retinal hemorrhaging.
A physician testified that the extent of the child's injuries will become clearer as he grows up.
Court records indicate Balisalisa was watching a relative's son in April because the boy's mother was incarcerated at the time.
