CALDWELL -- A Caldwell man who admitted sexually abusing and beating his three adopted children has been given a life sentence for his crimes.
Judge Bradley Ford ordered 35-year-old Kekoa Gaunavinaka to serve at least 25 years in prison for the crime of lewd conduct with a minor. Gaunavinaka was also sentenced to 10 years for two counts of injury to a child. The sentences will be served concurrently.
Canyon County Prosecutor John Bujak called it "one of the worst cases" of child abuse he's ever seen.
Prosecutors say Gaunavinaka tortured his kids, ages 9, 10, and 13, by repeatedly beating them with objects such as a paddle, curtain rods, tree branches and a screwdriver.
Gaunavinaka must also register as a sex offender in Idaho and pay each child a $5,000 civil penalty.
