BOISE -- The state of Idaho cut down its Christmas tree today in Boise thanks to a generous donation from a longtime resident.
The beautiful tree will be in front of the Capitol.
The Blue Spruce belongs to Mary Lou Jones. Her husband planted the tree when he built their house almost 50 years ago.
He passed away but Mary Lou says he would be excited to have his tree showcased at the Statehouse this year.
"I am thrilled, I am so pleased to be able to do this for the state, it is an honor for us," said Mary Lou Jones. "I am going to miss, I am going to miss it a lot."
Mary Lou and her two children say they will all be at the Capitol to see their family tree all decorate and lit up.
The tree lighting will happen on Nov. 26 at 6 p.m.
