CASCADE, Idaho -- A Boise man will spend 17 days in jail for piloting a boat that struck rocks in Payette Lake last August leading to the deaths of two of his passengers.
Ronald Stevens, 55, was at the helm of a ski boat carrying eight adults and four children when it hit rocks, capsized and sank.
Stevens was originally charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter in the deaths of his girlfriend, 61-year-old Linda Catlin, and her 41-year-old son Shane.
Stevens pleaded guilty to two counts of grossly negligent operation of a vessel. He was sentenced Tuesday in Cascade.
He must also serve 200 hours of community service and will be on unsupervised probation for two years upon his release from jail.
