BOISE -- A 22-year-old Boise man has pleaded not guilty to leaving the scene of a motorized scooter crash in which a woman was severely injured.

District Judge Patrick Owen scheduled a Nov. 4 trial for Thomas MacFarlane.

MacFarlane is charged with crashing his scooter at 3:30 a.m. on July 7, causing passenger Mirika Bideganeta to suffer a serious head injury that left her in a coma. Police believe MacFarlane carried Bideganeta for about two blocks after the crash before leaving her in someone's driveway. She was found at about 8 a.m.

Bideganeta's family expects her recovery to take months and include facial reconstructive surgery.

MacFarlane posted a $250,000 bond last week and was released from the Ada County jail. He was ordered not to have any contact with Bideganeta.
