BOISE – Boise City Council members will look into redefining the open container ordinance to allow what's known as “cycle pubs” or “bike bars” to be legally licensed.
Adam Park, spokesperson with the Boise Mayor’s Office, said the owners of two existing Boise companies operating these types of vehicles requested the law be amended to allow alcohol possession and consumption on a non-motorized commercial transportation vehicle.
The Boise city code currently prohibits possession of an open container on any “public place within the City of Boise.”
This ordinance would make an exception for a person to have an open container of beer or wine on a business licensed as a touring service vehicle, which is what the “cycle pub” or “bike bar” would be classified as.
Park says these are essentially the same rules limousines abide by.
If passed by the council, the ordinance would take effect immediately.
