BOISE -- The Boise Rescue Mission is currently holding its free Thanksgiving banquet in Nampa and Boise.
The Boise event is taking place at the Cathedral of the Rockies Methodist Church at 717 North 11th Street until 4 p.m. The Nampa event is being held at the Nampa First Church at 601 16th Avenue South until 7 p.m.
Organizers estimate more than 2,500 people will attend both banquets. Several dozen volunteers are working to serve a traditional holiday meal of turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and dessert.
Collectively, the free holiday meal is one of the largest such events in the Treasure Valley.
Megan Korthals of the Boise Rescue Mission says groups from local churches, businesses, and civic organizations typically volunteer for the event.
They don't just serve food.
"We actually have some of the that are staged as people that are eating, and just hearing the stories of people that we are serving," Korthalls said.
