BOISE -- Police say a bicyclist reportedly cut into traffic and was hit and injured Thursday morning near Milwaukee and Ustick roads around 7:40 a.m.

Lieutenant Stan Niccols said the man -- who's described as in his mid-to-late 40s -- tried to cross from the north side of Ustick Road and was hit by a car, according to witnesses.

"He decided to jump right into traffic," Nicchols told KTVB.

Firefighters say both the man and his bike damaged the windshield of the car that hit him.

His injuries are described as non-life-threatening. Lieutenant Niccols said they appeared to be mostly cuts and scrapes.

Police had to shut down westbound traffic on Ustick Road for about 30 minutes to deal with the situation.

Police say there aren't any crosswalks near the location.
