BOISE -- Attendance for the Western Idaho Fair was down one percent from last year, but fair officials say they're pleasantly surprised.
Total attendance was 243,850 for 2010, compared to 245,576 people that came through the turnstiles in 2009.
Bob Batista, director for Expo Idaho, says they expected attendance to be a challenge because of the economy and the fact that some schools started classes early.
He also says he didn't expect severe weather to deliver what he called a triple threat.
On the first Saturday night, fair goers had to evacuate because of a wind storm and later in the week it was 104 degrees.
One area that did see an increase this year was for children five and under. Their attendance was up 25 percent.
