BOISE -- More than 150 students from Koelsch Elementary bundled up in jackets, wool hats and potato sacks for the 3rd Annual Simplot Potato Sack Race today.

The racers were competing for a chance to participate in the finals, held on Boise State's blue turf during the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. Danielle Brazil, director of events for the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl was there to help out. She said the racers really want to make it to the finals, "it gets a little vicious, the kids are really competitive, but they have a great time."

Approximately 500 students from five of Boise's elementary schools are competing for just 10 slots that get to compete on the blue. The schools chosen are participating in the Lifetime Mover's program, promoting physical activity and sports for kids.
