2 injured in Highway 16 rollover

ADA COUNTY - Two people suffered serious but non- life threatening injuries in a single-car rollover crash Tuesday evening on Highway 16 north of Firebird Raceway, the Ada County Sheriff's Office said.

The crash happened shortly before 7 p.m. at mile marker 107 - about a half mile north of Chaparral Road.

The sheriff's office said a male driver and a female passenger were in the car and heading toward Emmett when it appears that the female reached across the driver's side and bumped the steering wheel.

The driver then overcorrected, causing the car to veer off the right side of the road and roll.

The driver was able to get out of the car, but fire crews had to cut through metal get the passenger out. The passenger was taken by air ambulance to a local hospital. The driver was transported by ground ambulance.

Highway 16 was shut down in both directions for about a half hour. The sheriff's office is investigating.
