POCATELLO -- Officials with Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello say an infant that had been treated there for whooping cough has died at a Salt Lake City hospital.
The 9-week-old, whose family is from Arimo, had been born prematurely and was too young to have been vaccinated against the contagious bacterial infection that can cause uncontrollable coughing. The infant was treated at the Pocatello hospital and later flown to Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake.
Portneuf spokeswoman Brenda Stanley says the infant died Thursday.
