BRUNEAU -- Without a local government, the unincorporated town of Bruneau relies on each other and the students are a big part of that.
Around the elementary school near the new walking path, students work with Bureau of Land Management and the Idaho Fish and Game on a new landscaping project. The two agencies will hold workshops with the students when the school begins next year.
The students will use those skills to plant and landscape the area. There will also be an outdoor amphitheater and picnic tables to use as an outdoor classroom.
The project includes plans to build a butterfly habitat area.
Another project is called Healthy School, Healthy Soles. Students prepare and plant seeds in a newly built garden.
Over the summer volunteers will maintain the garden. In the fall, students will harvest the produce and some of it will be used in school lunches.
