TWIN FALLS -- In just 12 days, the doors will open to the brand new St. Luke's Magic Valley state-of-the-art hospital.
The hospital is confident they will be able to transition seamlessly from the old hospital, to the new location.
Employees KTVB spoke with today are excited to be working in the facility and in some cases, see their construction ideas become reality.
Construction crews are working round the clock putting the finishing touches on the new hospital. Meanwhile, inside, hospital staff is going over the final checklists before patients can be moved in.
"Systems are up and running, our monitoring systems are going and that our supplies are here and ready to take care of those patients when they get here on Saturday morning," said Jenny Hopkins, Intensive Care Unit nurse.
When patients move in on May 21, 2011, Hopkins expects they will enjoy the private, larger hospital rooms. This will allow hospital staff to better assist their patients.
"We really tried to bring the care to the patient instead of the other way around, which at our old facility we had to do at times because we were limited in space. We just couldn't do what we needed at the bed side," Hopkins explained.
Hopkins, and other staff members from every department of the hospital were an integral part in the layout of the new facility.
"We designed these rooms so they would have plenty of room for the patients and the babies," said NI CU nurse Janice Preuit.
While employees are excited about the opening of the hospital, city officials are looking forward to the economic impact the hospital will have on the area.
"When you go out to recruit new businesses, one of the first questions they ask is schools, and then probably within that same sentence or breath, ask about the health care. and we can be proud to say we have St. Luke's, with a brand new hospital, state of the art," said Twin Falls Mayor Don Hall.
The CEO of the Hospital says during the five year construction process they employed upwards of 5,000 employees, the majority of those, from right here from the Magic Valley.
