GLENNS FERRY -- If you are looking for a dentist in Glenns Ferry, you can find Dr. Sherman there a couple of days each month. But if you're looking for a dentist for your horse, you can find Dale Jeffrey around any day.
The building that used to house horsepower, is now the home to horse dentistry. It's a unique combination, but there is also a museum, and more importantly, manufacturing.
Dale Jeffrey has been a farmer, a farrier and a cattleman -- and that was just in his first forty years. As for the last thirty, he considers himself an "equine gnathological practitioner."
Dale is a horse dentist, who started the academy more than ten years ago. He has written six books on the subject, and now he makes every tool necessary to take care of a horse's teeth.
From files to forceps, to fulcrums, every piece is built from start to finish. They do all of the blacksmithing, welding, and polishing without losing focus on the fun, and family.
Dale sells his tools and such in 60 countries and until recently, brought $2.5 million to the economy of Glenns Gerry, all from a business he built with his own two hands.
Dale says he has dentistry instruction six times a year out at his ranch in Glenns Ferry. The next one is coming up in July.
