I wonder what happened to John Miller. Is that the same guy whose byline I sometimes see in the Press-Tribune?

BOISE - Former KTVB Idaho Life Reporter John Miller spent more than a decade in the Treasure Valley, documenting the people and places that made - and still make - Idaho unique.

From stories about crazy dogs, to funny people and interesting places, Miller put a fun spin on the news - with his feature stories appearing each day at five and ten on channel 7.

In 2004 he left Boise with his wife, former KTVB executive news director Tracy Brogden-Miller for an opportunity in Seattle. Two stops and two kids later, the Millers have settled in Kansas City where Tracy runs a news operation and John takes care of the twins.

"Life is happily uninteresting right now," Miller said. "I run around with the kids all day long and do what stay at home parents do. Play dates, cook clean and laundry. There's never a five o'clock deadline anymore."

His twins - pre-schoolers Kate and Taylor, now four - are spending the summer at home with Miller - and he's starting to think the same thing many stay-at-home parents do as the summer days wear on.

"I was at the pool today with a friend of mine," he said. "The kids were running around whacking over the head with those foam noodles. I looked at him and said 'how many days until school again?'"

Miller says he loves Kansas City - and compares it to Boise

"It's similar to Boise in the respect that people just know each other," he said. "In Boise it's so much about families. It's great and surprisingly (there are) lots of things to do here. It's real kid friendly."

He hasn't been back to Boise since leaving more than six years ago, but still misses the area.

"I do miss turning stories, and I miss Boise. I saw Sun Valley on TV today. It's so familiar even though I haven't been back. I miss all the things there are to do."

"I still have dreams about my time in news," he said. "It's like I haven't studied for the exam and it turns into Dee reading the intro for a story I haven't shot yet."

With the kids approaching elementary age, what's next?

"I've got some yogurt to clean up on the kitchen floor and six loads of laundry. But beyond that I don't know. Come up with something for dinner."

His kids aren't the only thing getting him up early. His training for the Kansas City Marathon is in full swing - meaning an early-wake-up call to hit the trails and run.

And no, that John Miller you see writing in local newspapers for the Associated Press isn't the same guy. The AP John Miller said one of his first introductions to news in Boise involved the KTVB Miller - who had just left town.

"The first time I met (now) governor (Butch Otter), I introduced myself as John Miller from the Associated Press, and he said, 'I know what John Miller looks like, and you're not John Miller," he said.

John will be back on KTVB starting Thursday April 29th!
