MIDDLETON -- Two Treasure Valley school districts are getting national recognition for their health and nutrition programs.
The Middleton School District is the first in Idaho to have every one of its schools win an award through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s HealthierUS School Challenge. The program recognizes schools that improve the quality of the food served, educate students about nutrition, and provide opportunities for physical activity.
The state Department of Education says Middleton Middle School achieved the program's highest honor, a Gold Award of Distinction, while the four other schools in the district were awarded a Silver Award for their work creating healthier learning environments.
Payette High School was also recognized with a Silver Award.
