SEATTLE -- We've all heard of weight-loss diets that cut out bread, pasta and other foods rich in carbohydrates. In this Get Fit segment, Dr. Emily Cooper of Seattle Performance Medicine shares how carbs can do good things for you.
Benefits of carbs include:
- Consistent energy
- Sharp brain focus and memory
- Faster speeds for athletes
- Better test scores
- Better mood (increases serotonin)
- Help prevent injuries
If carbs are OK to eat, which ones are the best? Dr. Cooper said grains like whole wheat, beans and legumes, as well as starchy vegetables like potatoes are all good sources of carbs. At each meal and most snacks during the day, Dr. Cooper advised eating carbs along with protein and fat.
