CANYON COUNTY -- Mosquitoes trapped over Fourth of July weekend in Canyon County have tested positive for West Nile virus.

Officials say the nine test sites where the mosquitoes were found near U.S. Highway 95 and the Boise River, Roswell Marsh and Roswell Cemetery, Ballard Lane in Middleton and Channel Road east of Caldwell.

Officials say the string of hot weather that we have been experiencing has resulted in an increase in the population of mosquitoes, one of the primary carriers of West Nile.

In 2012, Canyon County had eight positive sites, but there were no reports of human cases.
