CHICAGO (AP) — Fashion designer Maria Pinto has teamed up with the Chicago's Field Museum of Natural History to curate an exhibition.
"Fashion and The Field Museum: Maria Pinto" opened Friday. It includes about two dozen garments, necklaces and other pieces Pinto chose from the museum's storage areas, as well as seven of Pinto's designs.
The Chicago fashion designer has famously dressed first lady Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey.
The exhibition is filled with materials that don't usually show up in Pinto's collections. There is an Inuit raincoat made from seal intestines, a woven monkey fur necklace and a Brazilian ceremonial costume made from shredded bark.
The exhibit runs through June 16.
