NEW YORK (AP) — The 16th-annual Webby Awards spread their honors across popular apps like Instagram and Pinterest, while naming comedian Louis C.K. person of the year.
The Webbys celebrate Internet achievement and are presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences. The group shared the winners with The Associated Press before they were to announce them Tuesday.
Louis C.K. was hailed for setting "a new precedent for distribution" in releasing his comedy special, "Live at the Beach Theater," on his website for $5. Comedians Aziz Ansari and Jim Gaffigan have since followed with similar releases.
Bjork was named artist of the year. Last year she released the album "Biophilia" as a multimedia presentation of music and apps.
The photo app Instagram was cited as breakout of the year. It was recently acquired by Facebook for $1 billion.
