BOISE -- Idaho Democratic congressional candidate Nicole LeFavour says voters should disregard Republican U.S. Rep. Mike Simpson's blowouts of her party's past 2nd Congressional District hopefuls.

LeFavour says those races, decided for Simpson by an average 36 percentage points, don't compare with the one she's waged to unseat the seven-term former dentist.

She says her 11 paid staffers, 30 personal trips to eastern Idaho and $300,000-plus in campaign fundraising give her a chance at success where past Democrats faltered.

Simpson has this advantage, however: It's a year when a popular GOP presidential candidate in Idaho, Mitt Romney, is likely to turn GOP voters out in force on Nov. 6.

LeFavour, a state senator, contends Simpson aligns too often with extremists aiming to gut government.

Simpson emphasizes deep, budget-balancing cuts are unavoidable.
