ADA COUNTY -- Because of big turn out for early voting, the Ada County Elections Office will be open this Saturday.

Voters can vote early from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Ada County Chief Deputy Clerk Phil McGrane said normally they start the first day of early voting with one hundred voters. They started with nine hundred voters and have kept up that pace ever since.

McGrane said last week they were averaging between nine hundred and a thousand voters every day. That's gone up to twelve hundred voters a day, and McGrane said they think it will go even higher next week. He said the numbers stay steady through the day, until about 4:30. But why people are showing up in droves for early voting, McGrane could not be sure.

"We've never experienced this kind of turnout so I don't know what it is. There's been a lot of attention due to the presidential debates, a lot of campaign activity, especially related to the referenda," said McGrane. "Maybe that's inspiring people to come out, but for whatever reason, early voting seems to be popular this election."

McGrane doesn't know if this is any indication of what turnout will be like on election day. But he said they are expecting voter turnout in Ada county for this election at 75 to 80 percent. He hopes the high early voting numbers will lessen the wait for folks who wait until election day.

If you aren't registered to vote, you can still do that. You can register at early voting or at your polling place on election day. But you have to vote immediately after registering.
