Hot air balloon visits Boise elementary school

BOISE - When it comes to reading, Amity Elementary School in Boise is among the top schools in the Treasure Valley.

This after local schools competed over the summer to see whose students could read the most.

Amity students read a total of 19,117 minutes!

And as a reward for their hard work, they got a special hot air balloon demonstration today.

Students cheered almost nonstop as the balloon was filled up.

"I think what we’re doing is we’re trying to set that foundation for them at the elementary level so that when they get to secondary they can be successful," said Principal Valerie Uhlorn. "This is their prize, this is what they earned, they are very excited about it."

Both Trail Wind Elementary School and Kenneth J. Carberry School also logged top reading numbers.

The hot air balloon presentation will also be visiting those schools very soon.
