Detectives asks for tips in death of mom, 2 kids

FERNAN LAKE, Wash. – The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help from the public on the recent deaths of a woman and her two children who were found dead in Fernan Lake.

Misty Phelps, 25, Tristan Phelps, 1, and Riley Phelps, 2, were found dead in their submerged car at the west Fernan boat launch on November 3. Officials said preliminary autopsy reports say their cause of death is drowning but they are still awaiting toxicology reports.

Detectives are asking anyone that may have seen or had contact with Misty and her children, or her silver 2006 Ford Fusion from about 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 2 to the time she was discovered to contact them.
