BOISE - The Boise Police Department is investigating another attack on a woman in a Boise neighborhood. Officials say the attack happened on November 8 at around 1 a.m. on Freemont Street.
It's a street that Samantha Freeman has walked home from work many nights.
"I was about halfway home when I heard someone running behind me," Freeman said.
What happened next is something she says she only sees in movies or TV shows, and it would never happen to her. But she was prepared.
"I turned around and saw a man running towards me," Samantha Freeman said. "I held up my pepper spray saying, 'Get away from me, get away from me.' "
She says the man continued to run towards her. Then he grabbed her arm and started to attack her.
"I kept screaming, I used my pepper spray and he ran away," said Freeman.
Freeman says she wasn't able to get a good look at her attacker because it was dark, but he was wearing all black.
"Right after it happened I was frozen."
Then - the thought that has haunted her since it happened.
"He could've raped me," Freeman said.
Usually, Freeman says she wears headphones when she walks home, but on this walk she didn't have them.
"What if I had my headphones in?" Freeman said. "I wouldn't have heard him or even known he was behind me until he grabbed me."
Now, she questions everything.
"Could I have stopped that night from happening?" she said. "Could it have been prevented if I walked a different way? Why me? why did you pick me?"
Weeks have gone by since her attack. The she heard the news of another attack of a 19-year-old woman in a parking lot near Westpark and Milwaukee streets this week, less than a mile from her attack.
"I kept thinking to myself he hasn't been caught he's still out there," said Freeman. "Honestly I'm scared that it's going to happen again."
Boise police has not been able to confirm if these two attacks are related or not, but they are stressing that if you're out walking, especially if you're alone, there are some things you may want to do like carry pepper spray or even take self-defense classes.
