Vandals hit new LDS Temple site

Vandalism found at Meridian LDS Temple site

MERIDIAN - Vandals struck the construction site of the new LDS Temple in Meridian over the weekend, the Ada County Sheriff's Office said.

Investigators believe the site in the 700 block of  North Linder Road was broken into sometime between 6 p.m. Friday and noon Saturday.

Black spray paint was used to cover walls with graffiti, including racist symbols and anti-religious messages.

Tubes of construction adhesive were emptied onto the walls and floors, the sheriff's office said, causing at least $500 worth of damage.

Sgt. Matt Steele told KTVB the sheriff's office has increased patrols in the area.

"We try to combat this," he said.

According to the sheriff's office, there have been reports of thefts at the site since last year, including a welding unit and an industrial saw.

Anyone with information is asked to call Det. Justin Elliot at (208) 577-3702.

Investigators are going over some surveillance video from the site along with evidence that was left behind.
