Camp counselor to stand trial for alleged lewd conduct
10:35 AM MDT on Wednesday, October 18, 2006
IDAHO FALLS -- A former counselor at the Island Park Scout Camp has been ordered to stand trial on a lewd conduct charge.
Twenty-year-old Shaundel McMurtrey is accused of having sex with a 14-year-old fellow camp staffer.
McMurtrey's attorney, Stevan Thompson, says that she's the real victim and that the wrong person is being prosecuted in the case.
A magistrate ruled yesterday that there was enough evidence in the case to bind McMurtrey over for trial. She's scheduled for an arraignment on October 31st.
If convicted, she could be sentenced to up to life in prison.
Efforts to reach a representative of the Grand Teton Council, the Boy Scouts of America chapter that oversees the Island Park Scout Camp, were unsuccessful.
