Canyon County woman pleads guilty to insurance fraud

BOISE – A Canyon County woman has admitted she lied about an insurance claims in which she collected more that $7,900.
Jennifer Fisher, 36, submitted a false burglary claim against her renter’s insurance policy to State Farm Insurance Company in Nov. 2006.
In June, 2007, Idaho Department of Insurance received information that Fisher had the items she had claimed were stolen.
Fisher was originally charged with five counts of insurance fraud and two counts of grand theft.
She pleaded guilty Monday in Third District Court to reduced charges of one count of insurance fraud and one count of grand theft.
“Insurance fraud is on the increase. Our investigative unit is dedicated to helping law enforcement agencies prosecute those who commit it,” said Idaho Department of Insurance Director Bill Deal.
Sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 2009.
Insurance fraud is a felony punishable by up to 15 years in prison and a $15,000 fine.
