Police: Boise man charged with making threat, brandishing knives

BOISE -- One man is behind bars after police say he threatened another man at a Boise apartment complex Friday.

Officers were called out to the apartments, located near the intersection of Allumbaugh Street and Barrister Drive, at 10:15 a.m.

Police had been called out to that location earlier in the morning for a report of a vehicle burglary. According to the report, 38-year-old Christopher Gauthier stole the keys out of a running vehicle and refused to give them back to the car's owner.

Officers weren't able to find the suspect at that time.

Later that day, police say the victim approached Gauthier and again asked him to give the keys back. According to police, the suspect brandished a pair of knives and made a "threatening, racially-motivated comment" towards the victim.

Gauthier was arrested on felony charges of burglary and malicious harrassment. He is currently held in the Ada County Jail on a $200,000 bond, and is due back in court Oct. 28.
