RIGBY, IDAHO - A district judge in eastern Idaho has denied an early discharge from probation request for a former Jefferson County sheriff.
The Post Register reports that Blair Olsen was convicted of three felony counts of misuse of public funds last year for letting his wife use a county-paid cell phone from 2010 through 2012.
Olsen was sentenced to three years of probation and 120 hours of community service and 15 days in jail. He has finished his community service and jail time, but still has 15 months of probation.
District Judge Dane Watkins Jr. said Thursday that Olsen's probation term appeared to be a "moderate" sentence, adding that Olsen can revisit his request two years after the probation began.
Olsen's case is currently being appealed. The Idaho Supreme Court is scheduled to hear oral arguments in December.
