BOISE -- Two Boise men accused of causing more than $50,000 in damage to local vehicles and businesses are facing felony charges in connection to the vandalism spree.
David Hochstetler, 28, and Michael J. Walsh, 59, are each charged with malicious injury to property for shooting out windows of more than 34 businesses and vehicles with a BB gun Oct. 24 and Oct. 25.
According to police, Hochstetler fired out the window of Walsh's car as Walsh drove. Damaged windows were found downtown, along State Street and on the Boise Bench along Vista Avenue and Orchard Street.
Hochstetler, who is on parole for felony grand theft, was arrested Oct. 31 on a probation violation. Detectives were able to identify him and Walsh as suspects following an investigation.
By the time charges connected to the BB gun spree were filed, Walsh had already been sent back to prison for failing to register as a sex offender or report an address change. Records show he was convicted of sexual abuse of a child in 1993.
Malicious injury to property is punishable by up to five years in prison. If convicted, defendants may also be ordered to pay back the cost of the damage.
