Caldwell standoff suspect captured

CALDWELL -- The man who sparked an hours-long standoff in Caldwell last week has been captured.

Fabian Salinas, 26, was arrested Monday afternoon in Meridian. He was transferred to the Canyon County Jail Tuesday to face charges including riot, burglary, theft, aggravated assault, aggravated battery and drug charges.

The hunt for Salinas alarmed residents of a Caldwell neighborhood Aug. 11 when officers and a SWAT team surrounded a Gossamer Street house. Police had received a tip that the suspect was hiding inside, but when they stormed the home, he was nowhere to be found.

Salinas, a documented gang member, was considered to be armed and dangerous. He was released from prison in 2012 after spending five years behind bars for shooting a gun at an occupied building.

A court date has not yet been set.
