BOISE - A 24-year-old Boise man has pleaded guilty in the killing of a longtime Firebird Raceway employee in April.
Tyler Martinez was accused of hitting and killing a pedestrian - 64-year-old Joel Eggers - with his car on April 8.
Prosecutors say Martinez was high on meth and using his cell phone to send text messages when he struck Eggers near the Boise Airport.
Martinez entered the plea Monday during a change-of-plea hearing, Ada County Deputy Prosecutor Ben Harmer said.
In exchange for the guilty plea other charges related to the case were dropped: destruction of evidence, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
In an unrelated case, Martinez pleaded guilty to one count of delivery of a controlled substance, while another delivery of controlled substance charge was dropped.
Harmer said the vehicular manslaughter charge carries up to 15 years in prison, while the maximum cpenalty for the delivery of a controlled substance charge is life in prison.
Martinez is scheduled to be sentenced at 9 a.m. January 20.
