KETCHUM, Idaho -- A Utah truck driver who pleaded guilty to misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter in the death of a Hailey woman who had stopped at a road construction site near Jerome last summer has been sentenced to a year in jail.

The Idaho Mountain Express reports Byrus Lyndon Gatewood of West Valley, Utah, was sentenced Monday in District Court in Jerome County.

Gatewood was sentenced for the June 28, 2011 death of 62-year-old Dayle Evan Fowler.

The Idaho State Police said Fowler was outside her vehicle waiting for traffic to be allowed through the U.S. Highway 93 construction zone in south-central Idaho when she was struck by a tractor-trailer rig driven by Gatewood.

Gatewood also was placed on two years of supervised probation and is not allowed to operate a commercial vehicle for two years.
