MOUNTAIN HOME -- The trial for an Elmore County man, who was once on the FBI's Most Wanted list, began Monday in Mountain Home.

Jorge Alberto Lopez Orozco is accused of killing his girlfriend, Rebecca Ramirez, and her two young sons in the summer of 2002.  Their bodies were found in a burned-out car.

Prosecutors say Orozco fled the country after their deaths.  He was named to the FBI's Most Wanted List and was featured on "America's Most Wanted."  Authorities captured him seven years later in Mexico and returned him to Idaho.

Orozco pleaded not guilty to three counts of first-degree murder in 2011.  His trial began Monday in Mountain Home.  The prosecution says Orozco's motive was based on jealousy.  They say Orozco thought Ramirez left him for another man.

"Rebecca and Jorge had been involved in a relationship.  They were involved off and on for a period of over a year.  Then in July that changed.  Rebecca had decided to leave him and end the relationship," said prosecuting attorney.

The defense argues otherwise.

"Just because your girlfriend leaves you gives you no reason to kill somebody and Jorge knows that.  And just because she may have stolen some things, some drugs or money, gives him no reason to kill her.  He knows that," said defense attorney.

The prosecution called several people to the stand to testify on Monday, including Ramirez's 18-year-old daughter and 16-year-old son.  They testified about the last time they saw their mother alive.

The trial is expected to last six weeks.
