BOISE -- A 26-year-old Boise man is in jail after a seven-hour standoff at a Boise motel Thursday.
The standoff began Thursday afternoon at the Howard Johnson's motel on Overland Road near the Boise Walmart. That's when police were called to a room on a report of a violent domestic situation.
On arriving, police say they contacted a woman who had fled from the motel room in question. However, officers say suspect Dimas Robert Narvaiz, II, of Boise remained holed up in the room, threatening to harm himself and urging police to shoot him.
They say it was unclear if Narvaiz had a gun.
SWAT officers responding to the situation tried to coax Narvaiz out of the motel room. However, just after 10 p.m. officers broke a window to the room, and used tear gas to flush him out.
Narvaiz was charged with felony attempted strangulation, felony violation of pretrial alcohol monitoring. Police say more charges are likely.
During the standoff, some guests were evacuated from their rooms.
Narvaiz is in the Ada County Jail.
