BOISE -- Police say a man riding a bike was struck and killed by an unidentified vehicle Thursday morning near State Street and 30th Avenue North.

Police spokesperson Lynn Hightower said the man's death appears to be caused by a hit-and-run collision sometime before sunrise.

Hightower says a bystander called 911 to report the man's body on the sidewalk just after 8:30 a.m.

The Ada County coroner has identified the deceased man as 53-year-old Victor Haskell of Garden City.  The cause of death is blunt force trauma.

The Boise Police Crash Reconstruction Team spent several hours investigating the crash. Officers found evidence that suggests Haskell was a victim of a hit-and-run crash.

Police say who ever hit him would likely have significant damage to the right front side of their car, possible damage to the frame of the windshield and to the windshield itself. Police also say the vehicle was going west on State Street.

Hightower says the incident remains under investigation.

"I'm not sure there are any witnesses to what happened, and that's part of the problem," Hightower told KTVB.

Police ask anyone who may have information to contact Crime Stoppers at 343-COPS, or log onto www.343cops.com, or text CRIMES or 274637, subject: Tip236.

In Idaho, leaving the scene of a deadly accident is a felony. Those convicted face up to five years in prison, may be fined up to $5,000, and will have driving privileges revoked for one year.
