NAMPA -- Officers have detained a 19-year-old prisoner who made threats with a pair of scissors at a courthouse annex building on Monday, according to the Nampa Police Department.
Sergeant Tim Randall said 19-year-old Jackie Curl somehow smuggled a pair of scissors into the Canyon County Courthouse Nampa Annex.
Randalls says Curl then asked to use the bathroom, cut his restraints using the scissors, then threatened a correctional officer who came to check on him. Police say Curl also attempted to take the officer's keys during the fight.
Police responded with tactical officers and a crisis negotiation team. According to Randall, the group set up a command post and evacuated the annex building soon afterward.
Curl was eventually arrested around 9:30 a.m., when he surrendered to police.
Police believe he was planning to escape from the courthouse. Randall says he was scheduled for sentencing later Monday morning.
Curl is now charged with aggravated assault, burglary, obstruct and delay of justice, and
escape. The 19-year-old is being held without bond at the Canyon County Jail.
